Interview with architect Jean Porsche

2018-05-17 During our experience participating in “Casa Decor”, we had an opportunity to meet Mexican architect Jean Porsche and chat about a number of issues, including the role of the kitchen as a beautiful and practical space in the home.
 
He began his career as an independent architect in Spain in 2010, and in 2013 he opened his own showroom, making a dream come true and showing everybody a bit of his world.
 
Jean Porsche has a multi-faceted professional profile and has been influenced by a number of sources over the course of his career. At first he worked in partnership with Humberto Artigas, one of Mexico’s greatest residential architects, and then for international architecture studios such as Arquitectonica and the CVO Group.

1. Hello, Jean! What do you think of this edition of “Casa Decor”?

 
The 2018 edition of “Casa Decor” has been a very rich one for me, offering a vast range of alternatives and inspiration for interior design, with plenty of new developments and trends worth following.
 

2. What are the other unmissable international events in store for us this year?

 
In addition to the events in Milan, there is of course Maison Objet coming up in September, ARCO in Lisbon and, in my opinion, a number of interesting antiques fairs.
 

3. What are your most important sources of inspiration in creating your spaces?

 
A lot of my inspiration definitely comes from American aesthetics and taste, particularly New York’s Upper East Side in the ’60s. I am inspired by the magic of what was known as the American dream, combined with the elegance and glamour of that golden age, when people had a feeling anything could happen.
 

4. Why did you choose SapienStone’s Bianco Lasa texture?

 
First of all, I must say that for the first time, I found a material with a realistic finish and texture, not one that looks like ceramic. When I look at the Bianco Lasa texture I feel that what I have before me is real stone, a one-of-a-kind material.
 

5. What advice would you give someone wanting to renovate their kitchen?

 
First of all, I’d say to ask for advice from a professional, and then to have a clear idea of how you want the kitchen to work, because it is a room that has a different meaning for everyone: some people practically spend their lives in the kitchen, while for others it is just another room in the house, so every kitchen is a world in itself.
This is why I believe it is essential to give advice, but also, and above all, to have a clear idea of the final project, to make the kitchen into a space that is practical, functional and beautiful.
