Marble: pros and cons

Marble has always meant elegance and opulence.
This natural stone has an ancient tradition. It has been used throughout history, and is especially associated with the ancient Greeks and Romans, who used marble to build their temples, monuments and palaces and to carve statues that were to last for all eternity.

Marble is formed from sedimentary rock in a process of metamorphosis that causes calcium carbonate to crystallise again, creating a beautiful mosaic made even more prestigious by the patterns created by nature. The colours and veining of marble vary widely, producing aesthetic results that can be surprising.

Marble has a particularly shiny, reflective surface and therefore the ability to contribute light, even while conveying an image of strength and solidity.

This prestigious material adds value to any space in the home, adding a touch of sophistication: the beauty and prestige characterised with marble make it a luxury material.
With the passage of time, marble’s use has become more limited; in interior design, it is now primarily used as a covering material.

However, marble’s excellent aesthetic qualities and durability are not matched by equally high physical and technical performance.
In addition to durability, marble stands out for its ability to resist scratching and blows; it is shiny and elegant, but it gets dirty easily and is hard to clean, and it is not impermeable or stain-resistant; it is a porous material particularly sensitive to citric acid.
These “limitations” make marble impractical and inconvenient, so it is not the ideal choice for spaces requiring prolonged, frequent use, or subject to pressure or “aggression” of any kind. Marble is now treated to make it less porous and more resistant to chemicals, but it is still preferable to use it in places less exposed to wear in order to preserve the aesthetic qualities that make it so special.
So while marble is an excellent material for making objects and covering walls, great care must be taken when using it in flooring, work surfaces and backsplashes in the kitchen and bathroom.

Sapientone: combining the look of marble with the performance of top-quality porcelain

For those who want to enjoy the ’unrivalled elegance and opulence of marble but want a strong, practical surface, SapienStone has the solution.
SapienStone has managed to come up with the best possible combination of design and practicality.
The SapienStone colour range includes 7 faithful reproductions of precious marbles. The introduction of through veins permits creation of a design that is uniform in three dimensions, continuing from the surface of the material through its entire thickness for unrivalled aesthetic impact.

The advanced technical and aesthetic research for which the company stands out has permitted creation of a product that perfectly imitates the look of natural stone, while offering the outstanding technical performance of top quality porcelain.
The result is outstanding: a kitchen countertop that is extremely hard and therefore immune to scratching and damage caused by utensils and absolutely impermeable. Its impenetrability is a result of the highly compact nature of the material it is made of, and has been perfected over years of study and technical testing. This important quality makes SapienStone countertops unalterable over time and safe from stains, and therefore from the need for use of aggressive chemicals to remove them.
Another very important consideration for a kitchen worktop
is that as it is not porous, it prevents the proliferation of bacteria: the surface is totally hygienic, making it ideal for use in contact with food and beverages.
The easy to clean SapienStone kitchen countertop is practical, convenient and beautiful.

Dark Marquina
Inspired by one of Spain’s most internationally acclaimed stones, Dark Marquina stands out for the depths of the black and the refinement of its appearance. Arabescato
This particularly prestigious variety of white marble is characterised by intense, frequent veins repeated and overlapping over its entire surface, known as "arabesques".
The backdrop is crystal white, but its bold, dark veins make this a marble that can be given either a modern or a classic look. The egg-shaped motifs, sometimes greyish-green in colour, that characterise its surface make it a marble with a bold personality, appropriate for bold, high-impact looks. This texture can in fact be used to reproduce the effect of “ book match ” marble with mirror veining. Slabs may be placed side by side to repeat the pattern over and over again.
It is available with natural and polished finishes.

Premium White
Premium White has an unprecedented chromatic balance. Pure white is only slightly variegated with subtle stripes to give the slab a delicate, silky look. This harmony recalls the flowing robes of the ancients, conveying an image of both strength and delicate elegance.
It is supplied with a honed finish.

Bianco Lasa
The best compromise between luxury and minimalism, this SapienStone material is ideal for creating a refined metropolitan look.
Sober, sumptuous and stylish, it stands out for its gold veins that go perfectly with a luminous background colour ranging from beige to grey, conveying a sense of simplicity and purity.
