Kitchen renovation – SapienStone for Big Meatlove

2020-06-29

The barbecue season is officially here! For many people, the barbecue experience is an essential part of summer, whether you have a big garden or just a little patio to work on.

Florian is definitely one of these people: a true fan of the barbecue.

Hence his blog “Big MeatLove” featuring all kinds of meat-based dishes with the recommendations of a true professional for anyone who likes to grill and cook.

Florian has fulfilled his dream and built the perfect outdoor kitchen. A kitchen that interacts with the garden, dominated by the barbecue, of course, but also by the worktop: a modern, elegant surface which is perfectly barbecue-proof.

Florian chose a Malm Black SapienStone countertop in an L-shaped layout with a built-in sink. Hygienic, resistant, easy to clean and beautiful, the SapienStone countertop turned out to be the perfect ally for a man like Florian, who can experiment with a thousand different recipes on it without worrying about damaging the surface.

Florian tells us more about himself and his brand new kitchen in this interview.

  • Tell us about yourself and what you love to do.

My name is Florian, I’m 30 years old, and I love meat. I like to share my life, my motivation and my enthusiasm about meat with other foodies like me. I just get carried away with anything that has to do with good food, and I’ve always liked to share my enthusiasm and enjoyment with others.

My blog is all about the barbecue, cooking and food. I always approach it in terms of the meat: prime cuts of quality meat, and everything that has to do with “men in the kitchen”. There’s nothing else that interests me as much as this!

  • Who and what inspires you in creating your recipes?

Nobody in particular is a source of inspiration for my recipes. I’m just looking for something new. I like people who simply do their thing. People who obviously really love what they do, whether it’s a sport, photography or cooking. I’m always open to new inspiration, and I allow myself to be guided by the desire to try something new.

  • What does the kitchen mean to you?

What could be better than spending time with friends making a fantastic meal together, outdoors, surrounded by greenery, under a sunny blue sky? Food has always had a very important meaning for me, which is why I consider the kitchen a very special place. Everyone enjoys dining with family and friends, and it’s even better if it’s outside, in the garden. We need to take the time to prepare good food, so it all starts in the kitchen.

  • What would the kitchen of your dreams be like...?

Three years ago, this was the most important question for me. A kitchen has to be properly planned. As I’ve been working with the barbecue and the kitchen for a long time, I know exactly what I need: a Big Green Egg kamado, which is the ace up my sleeve, along with a braai for cooking over an open flame, a grill as my main cooker, as well as a gas cooker, a refrigerator, hot running water and, of course, a large work surface with plenty of space. It was going to be a true joy to look at! I looked at various different ideas in terms of colours and materials, and in the end, I decided to keep the kitchen black and organise it in a very discrete style. I believe it is this simplicity above all that makes everything so incredibly elegant. The dark colour of “Malm Black” is perfect for this image. Its matt surface and fine structure ensure that dirt and dust cannot adhere easily to the elements: perfect for my outdoor kitchen!

  • What comes to mind when you think of Italian design?

Good question! I’ve never really asked myself that question before. I think of natural stones, marble, of minimalist style and bold contrasts, with dark notes. But the first thing that comes to mind is delicious Parma ham, thinly sliced with a red Berkel slicing machine with a handwheel, on a Sapienstone work surface.

  • What’s so special about Sapienstone countertops, especially for outdoor kitchens?

For my work surface, it’s important for me to have a material that works perfectly outdoors. Withstanding the rain, wind and foul weather while preserving the quality of the work surface. And the material must be worked with appropriately; it must be resistant to high temperatures, as I have integrated heating into my worktop. Porcelain makes all this possible.

  • How would you describe the Sapienstone countertop, in a single word?

PERFECT!

  • What is the best thing about the kitchen, in your opinion?

The best thing is that I have foreseen all my requirements. This kitchen, in its current form, is a true dream come true. It’s just perfect, as far as I’m concerned. I think the best thing about my outdoor kitchen is how much I enjoy myself here. I just love all the little details.
